Account care and management

November 6, 2009

Trojan Horse

In the light of YET another hacking problem, we have a few updated advice to give to the guildies.

1. Do NOT buy gold OR power leveling services. Using such services requires you to give your account information to the sellers. Also, you’re breaking the Blizzard Terms of Conditions, and are paying huge amount of real life cash for game gold. Isn’t that a bit pointless? That money is better spent on this or this.

2. These game scammers have found new ways to trick players for their account information. They pretend to be Blizzard GMs whispering to you about a cool website where you can get free items. Do NOT fall for these tricks, do NOT visit those sites, and most importantly, do NOT give them any of your account info! Some of these fake Blizzard sites look exactly like the real one. So whatever you do, don’t even think of going to those sites whispered to you. REMEMBER that Blizzard GMs have a special chat box to talk to you with, and does not use our standard chat interface.

3. Change your password for your account & email regularly. This is considered a general way to practice good internet security, especially in the midst of countless scams and hacks that have plagued the internet since its popularity began.

4. Get a Blizzard Authenticator from here, or download one for your phone or iPod Touch here. It uses the same technology used for secured online banking, and is currently the best way to secure your account.

5. In case you do get hacked, you might want to alert any of the officers about it so they can demote you, especially because your rankings allow you to withdraw items from the guild bank. So to preserve the integrity of the items, we highly recommend you to alert us as soon as possible. You can leave a comments in any of the posts, as those comments get sent to the officer’s email, which is read regularly.

That concludes our account safety update. Safety first!

Guild Stance

September 18, 2009

Greetings all,

Many of you have noticed that the atmosphere in the guild is starting to get slow. We don’t raid as often as we used to and it might seem pointless and boring to even log onto your characters.

A few might have contemplated joining other guilds, just to liven up your WoW life and probably raid much more regularly.

The officers in the guild have no issues if anyone wishes to join other guilds, and we wish them the very best if they decide to.

However, let us remind everyone again, that Newton Circus was never a raiding guild, never is one and never will be one. We were created based on an unfortunate incident that happened a long while ago, and we got many close friends who valued our friendship back then to join us. That was how Newton Circus was born.

We never intended to be like the big shot guilds that raided every night for long hours. We are a simple close-knit group that does things together. Be it just 5-man Heroics, battlegrounds or 10-25man raids, we do them mainly because we enjoy each other’s company.
Whenever a new member joins our ranks, we always tell them that we are NOT a raiding guild at all, but a social one. They should not expect any real raiding action.

When we do run an occasional raid, it is many due thanks to the officers, mainly Eviliori, who have been organising every single official guild run since the guild started. These kinds of things, such as organising might seem simple, but little do people know that we have to select the appropriate people, get them to actually turn up, find replacements if people are absent, handle loot fairly and et cetera. This is even harder to do if we’re running 25men raids.

This kind of work is thankless, so the very least we could all do is appreciate the fact that people take the time to properly organise a raid run. While it might not seem much, we do it mainly so that everyone can enjoy the content together as a guild, and have fun conquering (or wiping at) bosses.

So this post is simply to remind people that we are not a raiding guild, but a social ones. When one joins Newton Circus, they are actually joining a family, regardless of where they come from. And like all good families, we are always there for each other in the game, for good and bad times.

Cheers

Patch 3.1, and what it means for you.

Public realm testing for patch 3.1 have been going on for some days now, in which there have been many revisions and changes to Blizzard’s original patch notes on their official website. But as of now, I’m pulling all my details off from WoW Insider

For the league of level 80s;

-While our guild have yet to complete the whole of Naxxramas, the new raid Uldar is set to make the former look like child’s play, which is Blizzard’s intentions exactly. Members from the WoW development team have already digressed that Naxxramas is a great for players and guilds that are new to raiding, while Uldar raises the difficulty bar to accommodate hardcore players who do 3-drakes in Obsedian Sanctum and Eye of Eternity in their sleep.

More info on Uldar can be found here.

-Duel-specification should be available for level 80s for a grand fee of 1000g. Go crazy on your duel combinations.

-There’s a new gear management to go along with your duel-specifications. Just save as many sets as you need and swap them on the fly when you want to use them.

-Also, bought the wrong item with your emblems or tiered tokens? You can now exchange them back within 2 hours of your purchase, instead of bugging the game masters to change it for you. However, this is not applicable for stackable items, such as gems or Frozen Orbs.

-Lastly, there’s a new event in Icecrown known as the Argent Tournament. While not a world event as I first though, it will include a collection daily quests, similar to the Isle of Quel’danas, mounted combat, more achievements and rewards.

For the rest of us;

Well, even if we’re not level 80 yet, or almost there, there’s plenty for us to rejoice when the new patch hits town.

-Now, you dont dismount when you go for a swim, your mount will swim with you! Taking away the need for you to remount every time you’re back on shore. (Except for flying mounts that is, once you hit the water, your flying mount will drop you like a rock)

-You can now enter battlegrounds (not Wintergrasp however) from anywhere in the world! Bringing us to the goal of impulsive and easily accessible PvP goodness!

-A new event, called Noblegarden will last for a week. Its a tribute to Easter, a religious holiday. Expect new items, quests and achievements.

-New glyphs are added for all classes, talk to your local scribe to check them out.

-Class revisions, which means changes to your spells and talent tree, see the complete list below for detailed information.

-Last but not least, 30 minute cool-down for Hearthstones! (Down from 60 minutes) However, no more ghetto hearthing anymore, as it brings you to the nearest graveyard instead of your home location.

(Ghetto hearthing is a process in which you form a group, enter an instance <such as Ragefire Chasm in Orgrimmar> and leaving the group. In after which you’ll be teleported to your home location because you’re not in a party. But it’d all be history with the new patch coming up)

The full 3.1 patch notes are available from the World of Warcraft official site.

Funky guild names

February 19, 2009

Personally, the most funniest guild name that I have personally seen is the <Molten Core Swim Team>, on my old server. I was chuckling to myself for quite a while after seeing it.

The forums of darklegacycomic.com has a thread on guild names, hit this link below to see for yourself.

Speaking of Dark Legacy Comics, they have an awesome collection of comic strips, based on all things WoW, they’ve been featured in the official worldofwarcraft.com web-comics page several times now, and makes for a good read if you’re bored, or if the servers are down for Tuesday maintenance.

That’s it for now, have an awesome week all!

Found a something nice? WoW-related? funny? Then post it in the comments below and we might feature it in out next post!
